“Nostalgia”
written on 3.13.19

maybe it’s nostalgia
maybe just fading memories
but no one taught me that
growing up life’s beauty
can also make you bleed

i’m tired of mailing you letters
heartfelt notes that i penned
that mostly collect dust
from a presence gone long ago

maybe it’s time to light a match
to postcards from the past
’cause i’ve daydreamed far too long
to an effort that can’t last
forging a empty, haunting song

<chorus>
so i can’t keep reaching out
leaving my soul hanging from a ledge
’cause there’s someone beside me now
who loves me with a vow

so young and naive
hearts that flash then leave
memories smoldering in a flame
no one to blame
but i’m still healing just the same

<bridge>
she keeps me from falling
never stops calling
keeps my head above water
saves me from life’s slaughter
